Bulgaria in Serbia 2022/23

This profile of the cricket relationship between Bulgaria and Serbia does not focus on a single permanent joint club competition, as none exists. Instead, the interaction is defined by bilateral national team series and regional tournaments organized under the auspices of ICC Europe. The primary regional vehicle is the Balkan Cup, which features separate men's and women's iterations.

The men's competition began in October 2020 in Romania, where Romania defeated Bulgaria in a four-match T20I series. The women's inaugural event occurred in September 2022, also in Romania, with Greece winning the final against Romania. A separate tournament, the Sofia Twenty20 International Tournament, took place in Bulgaria in June 2021, drawing teams from Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, and Serbia. More recently, the Women's Balkans Cup in October 2024 featured legs in Serbia and Greece, involving Serbia, Bulgaria, and Greece.

On the bilateral level, Serbia and Bulgaria have contested series, including a three-match T20I series in Serbia in July 2022, which Serbia won 2–1. The governing bodies for these interactions are the Serbian Cricket Federation (SCF) and the Bulgarian Cricket Federation (BCF). Both organizations are Associate Members of the ICC, having been founded in 2009 and 2002 respectively.

Domestically, Serbia operates two leagues of four clubs each, including Stari Grad and Mirijevo. Bulgaria features the ECS T10 competition with seven senior clubs, such as Sofia Stars and Indo-Bulgarian CC. These domestic teams compete in the ICC Europe Challenger Division, where promotion to the Premier Division is awarded to the Challenger winner, while relegation affects the bottom two Premier teams. This structure supports the development of players who may later participate in the regional series mentioned above. The lack of a unified club championship means that cross-border competition remains primarily at the national team or specific tournament level rather than a sustained club rivalry.
