Desert Cup T20I Series 2022/23

The Desert Cup T20I Series, also known as the Oman Desert Quadrangle T20, operates as a specific bilateral and multilateral cricket tournament rather than a permanent annual fixture within a traditional league pyramid. Hosted by Oman Cricket, the governing body for cricket in Oman, the event grants full Twenty20 International (T20I) status to its matches under the recognition of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The most prominent edition took place in November 2022 at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Muscat. The competition featured four teams: the hosts Oman, along with Canada, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia. The structure of the tournament followed a double round-robin league format, ensuring that each team played every other team twice. This was followed by a final and a third-place play-off to determine the standings. In the 2022 edition, Canada secured the title by defeating Oman by eight wickets in the final.

This tournament is distinct from regional competitions like the GCC T20 Championship because it includes non-GCC nations, specifically Canada. This inclusion serves as a bridge between Gulf cricket and North American cricket, often functioning as preparation for World Cup qualifiers. The event sits outside the standard domestic pyramid, operating as an international series for associate members. Oman Cricket, a member of the Asian Cricket Council, organises the competition. The 2022 event was sponsored by Mazaplay.net. While there is no evidence of editions prior to 2022 or subsequent editions under the exact "Desert Cup" branding with the same format in major databases, the series provides a platform for these associate nations to compete against each other in a high-stakes environment. The tournament highlights the growing connectivity between cricketing regions that are not traditionally linked through standard international pathways.
