Durham in Zimbabwe 2024/25

The Zimbabwe Domestic Twenty20 Competition operates as the premier franchise-based T20 tournament within Zimbabwe. Founded in the 2006–07 season, the competition originally functioned under the name the Metropolitan Bank Twenty20 before undergoing a significant restructure in 2009–10. This transformation replaced provincial sides with cities and regions, establishing the current five-team format that includes the Mashonaland Eagles, Mountaineers, Southern Rocks, Matabeleland Tuskers, and Mid West Rhinos.

While the tournament typically features local franchises, it has occasionally welcomed an invited overseas participant. During the 2023–24 season, the English first-class county Durham County Cricket Club entered the competition as a guest team. Their participation served as a pre-season tour to prepare for the English T20 Blast. Durham secured the championship title that year by defeating the Mashonaland Eagles in the final. Their victory margin of 213 runs stands as the largest winning margin in men's T20 history.

The competition is structured around a round-robin group stage followed by a single final, ensuring a decisive conclusion to the season. Various sponsors have supported the tournament over the years, including Faithwear Metbank, Coca-Cola, and Castle. The current champions are the Mid West Rhinos, who claimed the title in both the 2024–25 and 2025–26 editions. Although Durham did not return for these subsequent campaigns, their guest appearance remains a distinctive feature of the league's history. The Mashonaland Eagles are widely regarded as the most successful franchise in the competition's modern era, having won four titles as the Eagles alongside earlier provincial honours.

The tournament continues to serve as a vital platform for domestic cricket in Zimbabwe, providing high-level competitive matches for players and fans alike. The inclusion of international teams, though rare, adds a unique dimension to the local sporting landscape. The final remains the focal point of the season, determining the ultimate winner of the domestic crown.
