The Global T20 Canada is a professional Twenty20 franchise league established in 2018 by Bombay Sports Limited. Sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC), the tournament operates as a high-profile exhibition designed to raise the profile of cricket in Canada and provide exposure for local players alongside international stars. It is not part of the traditional domestic pyramid found in other Canadian cricket structures.
The competition typically features six franchise teams representing major Canadian cities. Participants include the Vancouver Knights, Mississauga Panthers, Brampton Wolves, Montreal Tigers, Surrey Jaguars, and Toronto Nationals. The format consists of a single round-robin group stage where each team plays every other team once, followed by playoffs comprising qualifiers, an eliminator, and a final. All matches are T20, with twenty overs per side.
In April 2025, the rights were acquired by the Dallas-based National Cricket League (NCL) Canada after Cricket Canada terminated its contract with the previous owners in December 2024 due to financial disputes. The NCL Canada announced the tournament's return in 2026. Historically, the league has seen various winners, including the Vancouver Knights in 2018 and the Winnipeg Hawks in 2019. No editions were held between 2020 and 2022 due to the pandemic. The Montreal Tigers won the 2023 final, while the Toronto Nationals claimed the title in 2024.
The league is distinct from other Canadian cricket structures due to its franchise model and its status as a standalone commercial entity rather than a governing body-run domestic cup. While it focuses on entertainment and commercial growth, it sits separately from competitions that serve as direct pathways for national team selection. The upcoming 2026 season is scheduled to take place in July or August in the Brampton or Toronto area under NCL Canada management.
