About

The Inter-Insular Series is the premier bilateral cricket competition between the Channel Islands of Guernsey and Jersey. It comprises two distinct annual fixtures: the Inter-Insular Trophy, a single 50-over match, and the Inter-Insular Cup, a three-match Twenty20 International series. The rivalry dates back to 1950, with the first official match played on August 7, 1950, at Elizabeth College, Guernsey. Some historical records cite 1957 as the formal start of the organized series.

The competition is not part of the English domestic cricket pyramid but is recognized as an international fixture. Since January 1, 2019, the T20 matches have held full T20 International status granted by the International Cricket Council (ICC), as both islands are Associate Members. The 50-over match is also played between the national representative sides. The series is culturally significant to the Channel Islands, often described as 'Reds vs Greens,' and serves as a key preparation for international qualifiers.

Historically, Jersey has dominated the rivalry. As of the 2025 season, Jersey holds 37 wins in the 50-over Trophy compared to Guernsey's 21, with 14 draws. In the T20 format, introduced in 2018, Jersey has won every series played to date, including the 2025 series which they won 2–1. Jersey also won the 2025 50-over match by 8 wickets. The competition has undergone several name changes due to sponsorship, including the Gold Leaf Trophy (1966–1977), Haig Scotch Whisky Trophy (1978–1988), Carlsberg Lager Trophy (1989–1993), Tetley Bitter Challenge (1994–1997), and more recently the kiya.ai T20 Cup and CBO Inter-Insular Trophy. Prior to 1950, matches were played between club-level teams (Guernsey Island Cricket Club and Jersey Island Cricket Club). Unlike domestic English county cricket, this is a cross-border bilateral contest between two distinct national entities within the British Crown Dependencies.
