Hong Kong Men’s T20I Series 2023/24

The Hong Kong Men’s T20I Series is not a permanent branded tournament but a generic descriptor for bilateral or triangular Twenty20 International series hosted by or involving the Hong Kong national cricket team. Hong Kong holds Associate Member status with the International Cricket Council (ICC), a position granted in 1969. The governing body, Cricket Hong Kong, rebranded from the Hong Kong Cricket Association in 2016. All matches played between Hong Kong and other ICC members count towards the ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings.

The format varies significantly depending on the event. Bilateral series typically consist of two to five matches between Hong Kong and a single opponent. Triangular tournaments involve multiple teams, such as the recent event featuring Hong Kong, Nepal, and Papua New Guinea. In that specific instance, Papua New Guinea won the final against Nepal. These fixtures are distinct from Hong Kong’s domestic competitions, such as the Hong Kong Premier League, which features club teams rather than national sides.

Hong Kong was granted official T20I status for all bilateral matches in June 2019, although they had played T20Is in ICC tournaments prior to this designation. The first T20I match for the side took place in March 2014 against Nepal in the ACC Premier Cup. Frequent opponents include Malaysia, Nepal, and Scotland. Since there is no single recurring branded series, there is no single permanent champion or trophy holder. Winners depend entirely on the specific series or tournament held. Promotion and relegation do not apply, as this is an international competition between national teams rather than a domestic league with tiered structures. The events serve primarily to develop the national squad and improve their global standing within the sport.
