The ICC Men's T20 World Cup Asia A Qualifier provides a dedicated pathway for emerging cricket nations in the region. Organised by the International Cricket Council under the Asia Cricket Council, it operates as a second-tier development tournament for countries that do not compete in the main Asia Qualifier. The competition targets developing associations rather than established full-member or top associate nations.
The structure of the event changes according to the World Cup cycle. The 2021 edition involved five teams playing a round-robin format. Later iterations adjusted the number of participants and the match schedule, with the 2023 edition featuring four sides in a double round-robin. Promotion from the Asia A Qualifier leads teams to the Asia Regional Final, where they contest for the region's spots in the global T20 World Cup or the Global Qualifiers. There is no automatic relegation to a lower tier; eliminated teams simply exit the current qualification pathway.
Bahrain claimed victory in the 2021/22 edition. Kuwait has since demonstrated strength in this specific bracket, winning the 2023 edition hosted in Doha and the 2024 edition held in Malaysia. Previous iterations of the Western Sub-Regional tournament saw success for the UAE. The competition utilises neutral venues to facilitate participation from smaller nations, ensuring fair play across different levels of development. This focus allows emerging teams to gain experience at a competitive level before potentially moving up the regional hierarchy. The tournament remains a crucial stepping stone for players and administrators looking to elevate their cricket infrastructure within the Asian continent.
