The contest between the Indian and Irish national cricket sides is a fixture built on uneven beginnings and recent shifts in momentum. Their history began with India’s dominance, a pattern that held firm for nearly two decades before a dramatic turn in 2026.

The first meeting took place on June 23, 2007, in Belfast. India won that One Day International by nine wickets, setting a tone that would persist for years. In ODIs, India kept a perfect record, winning every match they played against Ireland. Their highest total in these encounters reached 260 for two during the 2015 Cricket World Cup. Despite Ireland being granted full Test status in 2017, the two nations have never met in the longest format of the game.

The Twenty20 International rivalry followed a similar trajectory. India won all seven T20Is played between the teams from their first encounter in 2009 until mid-2026. This streak included bilateral series in 2018, 2022, and 2023, as well as tournament matches in the 2009 and 2024 World Cups.
