Kwibuka Women's Twenty20 (Nigeria) 2021/22

The Kwibuka Women's Twenty20 Tournament is an annual international cricket competition hosted in Rwanda. Organized by the Rwanda Cricket Association, the event was established in 2014 under the original name "Kwibuka Cricket for Peace." It takes place each year during April or May to commemorate the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, with the term "Kwibuka" signifying "to remember" in Kinyarwanda. The primary objective of the tournament is peacebuilding and remembrance rather than functioning as a formal qualifier for major International Cricket Council (ICC) events. However, matches contested within the competition have been granted Twenty20 International (T20I) status since 2019. The structure typically features a round-robin stage followed by play-offs, utilizing an invitational model where promotion and relegation do not apply. Kenya holds the record for the most titles with four wins, achieved in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2021. Uganda follows with three victories in 2014, 2016, and 2024. Tanzania secured two titles in 2019 and 2022, while Rwanda claimed their first championship in 2023. The tournament invites teams beyond strict regional hierarchies to foster global solidarity, distinguishing its approach through its explicit focus on memorializing the genocide and promoting national unity through sport.
