Established in 2023 by the Malta Cricket Association, the Mdina Cup is an international men's cricket tournament played in the Twenty20 International (T20I) format. The competition is currently organized by the European Cricket Network and serves as a preparatory event for European associate nations ahead of ICC Men's T20 World Cup qualifiers. The tournament features senior national teams rather than clubs and operates as an invitational series with no promotion or relegation.
The inaugural edition in 2023 was hosted in Malta and involved three teams: France, Luxembourg, and Malta. France won the 2023 edition. The format subsequently evolved from a condensed group stage to a double round-robin followed by a final. The 2024 edition, hosted in France, included France, Belgium, and Malta; Belgium won the final against France. The 2025 edition, hosted in Belgium, featured Belgium, Portugal, and Malta; Belgium won the final against Portugal.
The name "Mdina Cup" refers to the historic fortifications of Valletta, Malta, reflecting its origins. The tournament distinguishes itself from other European cricket events by focusing on short-format T20Is among emerging European nations. Teams such as Belgium, France, Luxembourg, and Malta have participated in various iterations of the competition since its inception.
