The Mdina Cup is an annual international T20I tri-series tournament organized by the European Cricket Network (ECN). It operates as a standalone regional competition for European associate member nations, specifically designed to provide T20I status matches to developing cricket boards. Unlike domestic leagues, it sits outside the national pyramid structure.
The tournament involves three national teams: Belgium, Malta, and Portugal. The format consists of a double round-robin group stage where each team plays every other team twice, followed by a final between the top two teams. The event typically spans four days and features seven matches in total, including six league matches and one final. This compact, high-frequency structure distinguishes it from other European cricket competitions like the ICC Challenger Series or the Continental Cup.
The current holder of the Mdina Cup is Belgium, who won the 2025 edition by defeating Portugal in the final. Past winners include France, who claimed victory in 2023, and Belgium, who defeated France in 2024. France also participated in earlier editions, hosting the 2024 tournament. Malta hosted the inaugural edition in July 2023. The competition is named after Mdina, the historic capital of Malta.
There is no formal promotion or relegation system. Participation is determined by invitation and agreement among the ECN and national federations. The ECN serves as the primary organizing body, collaborating with the host nation's cricket board for each edition. The tournament fosters regional rivalry and development among emerging Western European associate nations.
