About

The Men’s T20 Asia Cup Qualifier was a cricket tournament organized by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to determine the final qualification spot for the main ACC Men’s Asia Cup among Associate member nations. The tournament operated as a distinct pathway from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier, which fed a different global competition. While the ACC has held qualification events since at least 2016, the specific branding is most prominently associated with the 2022 edition, though earlier tournaments are considered part of the same lineage.

The 2022 edition featured a single round-robin format with four teams: Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, and Kuwait. Hong Kong won all three matches to finish top of the table and qualify for the Asia Cup; there was no separate final match. The United Arab Emirates finished as runners-up. This structure differed from previous iterations, such as the 2018 edition held in Malaysia, which featured a group stage followed by a final where Hong Kong defeated the United Arab Emirates.

Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates are the most successful teams in the recent history of this specific qualifier, each having won the tournament twice. Hong Kong secured victories in 2018 and 2022, while the United Arab Emirates claimed titles in 2016 and potentially earlier iterations. The tournament was subordinate to the main Asia Cup and the ACC Trophy/Championship.

The tournament was discontinued after 2022 and replaced in 2023 by the ACC Men’s Premier Cup and Challenger Cup structure, which now serves as the qualification pathway for the Asia Cup. The 2022 edition is often cited as the last standalone event before the ACC restructured its calendar.
