About

Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Asia Qualifier A serves as a preliminary stage in the qualification pathway for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Established by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the 2021–2022 cycle, it was continued for the 2024–2026 cycle. The competition is a structural component of the broader Asia Qualifier pathway, introduced to split the large Asian membership into geographic sub-regions to manage logistics. It sits below the Asia–East Asia-Pacific Regional Final in the pyramid.

In the 2023 edition, the tournament featured four teams: Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Maldives, and Qatar. Held in Qatar, it operated as a round-robin. Kuwait won, finishing ahead of Saudi Arabia on net run rate. The 2024 edition expanded to seven teams, including Malaysia, Kuwait, Hong Kong, Singapore, Maldives, Myanmar, and Mongolia. Hosted in Malaysia in August–September 2024, it used a single round-robin group stage with no knockout finals within the qualifier itself. The top two teams, Malaysia and Kuwait, advanced to the Asia–East Asia-Pacific Regional Final.

Promotion involves the top two teams from Sub-Regional A advancing to the Regional Final. There is no relegation within the Sub-Regional stage; teams that finish lower are eliminated from the World Cup qualification pathway for that cycle. The governing body is the ICC, with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) involved in regional coordination. The competition is distinct from the ACC T20 Asian Cup, which is a continental championship for full and associate members, whereas this is strictly a World Cup qualification stage.
