National Counties T20 Competition (England) 2021/22

The National Counties T20 Competition is a domestic Twenty20 cricket tournament in England and Wales. It was founded in 2018 by the National Counties Cricket Association (NCCA), the governing body for non-first-class counties, operating under the auspices of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The competition was rebranded to the National Counties T20 Competition in 2020, coinciding with the renaming of the member bodies from Minor Counties to National Counties.

The tournament sits at Level 4 of the English cricket pyramid, below the professional First-Class counties and the Second XI Championship. It is distinct from the T20 Blast, which features the 18 First-Class counties and their professional squads. The National Counties T20 features amateur and semi-professional players from the 19 member counties of the NCCA (18 English historic counties and the Wales National County Cricket Club). There is no promotion or relegation to the First-Class structure; membership is based on historical county status.

The format has evolved over time. In its inaugural 2018 season, it featured a group stage followed by a Finals Day. Recent formats, such as the 2024 and 2025 seasons, have utilized a "Super 12s" structure. In 2024, the 19 teams were divided into five groups of four (with one team likely absent or a guest, though standard membership is 19) in the preliminary stage, with the top teams advancing to the Super 12s round-robin, followed by semi-finals and a final on Finals Day. The 2025 Finals Day was held at Wormsley on August 24, 2025.

Winners include Berkshire (2018, the inaugural winner), Oxfordshire (2022), and Norfolk (2025). Oxfordshire also won in 2021. The competition serves as a key platform for players aspiring to reach the professional game or for those who have retired from it, offering a high-standard T20 environment distinct from the professional circuit.
