The inaugural Quadrangular Twenty20 Series, officially known as the 2025 Malawi Quad Nations T20 Cup (Arjun Menon Memorial), marks a significant milestone for cricket in Malawi. Held at the TCA Oval in Blantyre from July 5 to July 13, 2025, the tournament represents the first multi-team Twenty20 International event hosted in the country. Organized by Cricket Malawi, the competition served as a tribute to Arjun Menon, the former head of cricket operations for the national body.
Unlike the domestic National T20 Championships, which feature local clubs such as Alendo and Spartans, this series is an international invitational event. It brought together four national representative sides: the hosts Malawi, regional neighbour Tanzania, and international participants Bahrain and Germany. This structure distinguishes the competition from other local fixtures, as it includes teams from outside the immediate geographic region, specifically from the Middle East and Europe. The tournament functioned as a development platform for these emerging cricketing nations, allowing players to compete at the international level.
The format consisted of a double round-robin group stage where each team played every other team twice. Following the group phase, the competition proceeded to a third-place playoff and a final, with a total of 14 matches scheduled. Although some league matches were abandoned due to rain, the tournament concluded with definitive results. Tanzania won the inaugural edition, defeating Bahrain by 10 wickets in the final. Bahrain finished as runners-up, while Germany placed third. There were no previous editions of this specific quadrangular series, making the 2025 event its inception. Cricket Malawi, which gained independent Affiliate status in 2003 before becoming an Associate Member of the International Cricket Council, oversaw the entire proceedings.
