About

The Regionals Pro50 is Zimbabwe’s premier domestic List A cricket competition, contested in the 50-over format. It sits within the domestic pyramid below the first-class Logan Cup but remains distinct from the T20 Cup. Originally established in the 2002–03 season as the Pro50 Championship, the tournament was created following recommendations from the International Cricket Council (ICC) after a domestic crisis. The inaugural edition carried the name Faithwear Inter-Provincial One-Day Competition, with Mashonaland securing the first title.

The structure has shifted significantly over time. For several years, provincial sides such as Mashonaland and Matabeleland competed, before a franchise model introduced teams like the Mashonaland Eagles and Southern Rocks. That era saw the Eagles dominate, claiming four titles between 2011 and 2019. The format typically combined a round-robin league with knockout playoffs.

In 2022, Zimbabwe Cricket rebranded the event as the Regionals Pro50, replacing franchises with regional associations: Northerns, Southerns, Mountaineers, and Matabeleland Tuskers. Financial and administrative pressures have since condensed the schedule. Recent seasons, including 2022–23, 2023–24, and 2024–25, featured only two teams, Northerns and Southerns, playing a short series of matches to decide the champion. Northerns won the 2022–23 title, while Matabeleland Tuskers took the 2023–24 crown. Northerns then completed the 2024–25 series with a 2–0 victory.

There is no formal promotion or relegation system; participation relies on administrative decisions by Zimbabwe Cricket. The competition carries sponsorship names such as Metbank and Coca-Cola, before settling on the generic Regionals Pro50 title. Its identity remains tied to the 50-over List A standard, separating it from other domestic formats.
