About

The Sofia Twenty20 is a Twenty20 International cricket tournament organized by the Bulgarian Cricket Federation (BCF). It was staged to mark the 20th anniversary of the federation, which was founded in 2001. The inaugural edition took place in June 2021 in Sofia, Bulgaria. This event featured four national teams: Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, and Serbia. The competition utilised a round-robin format, after which the top teams played semi-finals and a final. Romania won the title in that first year. All matches in the event carry full T20I status, recognised by the International Cricket Council (ICC). This distinguishes the tournament from the informal 'Balkan Cup' series, which has historically operated as a bilateral or smaller-scale contest. The Sofia Twenty20 was designed as a multi-national quad-series hosted in the capital city. The BCF acts as the sole organizer for the event. A second edition was held in 2022, though the format changed significantly. That year, the competition became a bilateral four-match series between Bulgaria and Serbia. Bulgaria won all four matches in that series. There were no further editions in 2023, 2024, or 2025. This absence of activity suggests the tournament may be irregular or has been discontinued. The competition remains a distinct fixture in Balkan cricket compared to other regional gatherings.
