The Women's African Games cricket tournament made its debut in March 2024 in Accra, Ghana. It appeared as part of the 13th African Games, a multi-sport continental event first held in Brazzaville in 1965. The competition is distinct from standalone ICC-sanctioned tournaments like the Africa Qualifiers, as it is a finite invitational tournament within the Games framework where teams compete for national medals. There is no promotion or relegation system in place.
The tournament featured eight women's national teams. South Africa, Namibia, Tanzania, Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe took part in the competition. The format consisted of two groups of four teams. Teams played a round-robin stage before progressing to knockout semi-finals and medal matches for the Gold and Bronze positions.
Zimbabwe won the inaugural gold medal by defeating South Africa in a Super Over in the final. South Africa took silver, and Nigeria defeated Uganda for the bronze medal. The event was organized by the African Union (AU), the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), and the Association of African Sports Confederations (AASC). The cricket competition itself was sanctioned by ICC Africa.
Cricket was previously included in the men's tournament at the 2015 All-Africa Games in Brazzaville, where South Africa won gold. It was not part of the 2019 Games. The official website for the 13th African Games was accra23ag.com.
