Zimbabwe Cricket, an ICC Full Member since 1992, had run the men's side under Test status for years before the women's team reached that recognition, and the wait shapes how the record since reads.
The T20 side moved first. Zimbabwe played their opening T20I against Namibia in January 2019 and closed that series 5-0, then took the Victoria Tri-Series in Uganda the same year.
The clearest measure of what changed arrived in Accra in 2023. At the inaugural women's cricket tournament of the African Games, Zimbabwe met South Africa in the final and won it in a Super Over — a gold medal against the continent's strongest side.
