Ireland Women

Scotland is the name that recurs whenever Ireland Women's history reaches a qualifying tournament: there is no derby name attached to it, only the recurring fact of meeting each other exactly when a place at a global event is what's at stake.

The team, known as The Girls in Green, played its first One-Day International on 28 June 1987 against Australia, at Ormeau in Belfast rather than at their current home. A World Cup debut followed within a year, in Australia, where they finished fourth. Qualification has since become the shape of their history: the European Cricket Championship in 2001 and 2009, the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier in 2003, the World Twenty20 Qualifier in 2015, and, most recently, the T20 World Cup Europe Division 1 Qualifier in 2025.

Laura Delany, the former captain, remains the most-capped player to have worn the green. Gaby Lewis, her successor as captain, holds the Irish record for the highest individual T20 International score, 105 not out. Amy Hunter scored a century on her sixteenth birthday, and Orla Prendergast was named the ICC's Women's Player of the Month in August 2025.

Home fixtures settle at Malahide, north of Dublin, where temporary stands take the ground's capacity to around 11,500 for the days it's needed.
