Women's Premier League (India) 2023/24

The Women's Premier League operates as a parallel, closed franchise system within Indian cricket, sitting outside the traditional state-based domestic pyramid. Founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India in 2022, the inaugural season took place in March 2023. It functions as a separate commercial entity from the men's Indian Premier League, utilizing its own broadcasting rights through Viacom18 and a scheduling window typically in January and February.

The tournament features five franchises: Gujarat Giants, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and UP Warriorz. These clubs are owned by the same entities that hold IPL franchises, including Reliance Industries and Adani Enterprises. The competition format begins with a double round-robin league stage where each team plays eight matches. The top three teams then advance to the playoffs, with the first-placed team moving directly to the final while the second and third-placed teams contest an eliminator.

Tata Group has served as the title sponsor since the league's inception. In terms of success, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru stand out as the most successful clubs, with each having won two titles. Mumbai Indians claimed victories in 2023 and 2025, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru won in 2024 and 2026. Individual records are led by Nat Sciver-Brunt as the highest career run-scorer and Amelia Kerr as the highest career wicket-taker.

The league was established to provide a professional platform for women cricketers, bridging the gap between domestic state cricket and international opportunities. It does not act as a direct feeder league to the IPL. There is no promotion or relegation within the structure, and new teams are added via BCCI-managed expansion bids.
