Women's T20 Pentangular Series (in Spain) 2022/23

The Women's T20 Pentangular Series is an international Twenty20 International (WT20I) tournament organized by Cricket España, the national governing body for cricket in Spain. Founded in 2022, the inaugural edition took place from November 11 to 14 at the Desert Springs Cricket Ground in Almería. The competition features national teams rather than domestic clubs, distinguishing it from the decentralized regional leagues that feed into the European Cricket Club League.

The 2022 format employed a single round-robin group stage where each of the five participating nations played every other team once. The squad comprised the host nation, Spain, alongside Italy, Sweden, Norway, and the Isle of Man. Italy secured victory in the tournament, finishing top of the table. Individual performances highlighted the event: Spain’s Naomi Hillman-Bermejo led the run-scorers with 152 runs, while Italy’s Kumudu Peddrick claimed the most wickets with nine. A standout moment occurred when Gunjan Shukla of Sweden took five for seven against the Isle of Man, marking the first five-wicket haul by a Swedish cricketer in a WT20I.

Cricket España also manages a separate domestic women’s competition, the Women's Spanish National Finals, involving club teams such as Murcia Cobras and Sevilla Scorpions. The Pentangular Series serves as a developmental platform for national teams, particularly for associate nations like the Isle of Man, which played its first official WT20Is in this series. Although the primary focus remains on international development, the tournament operates outside the standard annual domestic structure.

The event provided visibility for associate members seeking experience at the international level. It offered a structured environment for players to compete against regional neighbours. The gathering facilitated skill exchange between nations with varying levels of cricketing infrastructure. This approach allowed teams to test strategies in a competitive setting without the pressure of a permanent fixture.
