Red Bull Salzburg women took three points against Südburgenland in the opening round of the Women's League Regular Season. The hosts won 2-0 on Friday, with goals from M. Plattner and V. Akrap sealing a result that keeps them mid-table and pushes the visitors deeper into trouble.
Plattner struck first in the 43rd minute, breaking the deadlock before the break. The home side did not add to their tally until the final moments, when Akrap found the net in the 90+4th minute to make it 2-0. Between the goals there were five substitutions and three yellow cards, including one in the 75th minute where no player was named.
Salzburg's shape held firm through the second half. They made three changes — Wienerroither and Maurer came off in the 61st and 62nd minutes, while Grafl and Grunwald were replaced together in the 77th and 78th. The hosts also brought on Hamzic in the 88th and Schandl in the 90+2nd, while Csejtei picked up a booking just after the hour mark.
The result leaves Salzburg fifth with six points from five games, two wins and three defeats. Südburgenland remain bottom, having collected only two points from five matches — two draws and three losses. Neither side has yet found consistency, though the hosts at least managed to convert their chances.
Salzburg's recent form shows a side that struggles to score but rarely loses heavily. They drew twice against Austria Vienna and lost four-nil on two occasions to St. Pölten. Südburgenland have been more porous, conceding in every game they have lost this season.
