Mike Hesson named interim coach amid Pakistan chaos
New Zealander Mike Hesson steps in as Pakistan's interim head coach for the third Test after seven players were axed following the loss at Lord's.
«The guys are probably more used to a little bit of chaos than I am».
Pakistan trail England 2-0 in the series and their response has become the talk of the sport. Three of the seven axed players — Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha — were told their tour was over straight after the defeat at Lord's. Hesson said he had no part in that call, made by the high performance director, Aaqib Javed, and could not give the precise reasons behind it.
Hesson had been in Japan preparing for the Asian Games before a visit to Clarence House with the Pakistan Cricket Board on Wednesday turned into a new job. "It's been pretty challenging," he said. "I was heading over to see the king and be part of a nice occasion. That got expedited."
Hesson, previously Pakistan's white-ball coach, has spent the week holding one-on-one talks with the players who remain and running them through drills at Edgbaston's indoor school because of rain, working out the blend the side needs for the third Test, which starts there next week.
