Pierre LeBrun reports the restricted free agent's trade request from Carolina remains in place as Hurricanes training camp nears, with no new contract signed.
Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reports the defenceman still wants out of the Hurricanes, with training camp about to open.
"Defenceman Alexander Nikishin has still not signed a contract with the Carolina Hurricanes, despite training camps set to open shortly. The 24-year-old restricted free agent requested a trade at season's end, and on Monday I was made clear that request remains in place," LeBrun wrote.
Nikishin, 24, put up 33 points (11 goals, 22 assists) with a plus-18 rating in 81 regular-season games for Carolina last season. In the playoffs he added one assist in 17 games, finishing at minus-1.
