Shubman Gill made 223 as India chased down West Indies' 405 for seven with 39 balls to spare, the highest ODI total ever overhauled by a team batting second.

Gill's innings was the fastest ODI double century on record. He reached 200 off 117 balls, beating the mark set by his compatriot Ishan Kishan. He put on 255 for the first wicket with Rohit Sharma, who made 101, and India won by eight wickets in Guwahati to move 2-0 up with one match to play in the series.

India's total was their sixth-highest in ODI history and beat their previous best run-chase of 360, against Australia in 2013.

West Indies had set the target with three centuries of their own. John Campbell, Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo all passed three figures as the total climbed to 405, itself a record score for the team, only for India to pass it inside 40 balls of the finish. Between them, the two innings produced five centurions, the first time that has happened in a single ODI.

However, the 50-over series against India is already beyond their reach with one game left.
