About the player
David Martínez came up through Independiente's own academy in Florencio Varela, making his first-team debut in March 2023. Since then the midfielder has settled into a defensive or central role, racking up 43 appearances in the Primera División and five more in the Copa Argentina, plus a single outing in the 2025 Copa Sudamericana, without troubling the scoresheet at senior level for the club.
In July 2025, Independiente sent him out on loan to Volos NFC in the Greek Super League for the 2025–2026 season. The move gave him a regular starting berth he had not held at home: 19 league appearances and two goals. He came back to Independiente in June 2026.
Martínez has yet to be capped by Argentina at senior or youth level, and his time at Independiente has not yet brought a major trophy.
