About the player
Geny Cipriano Catamo scored on his senior debut for Mozambique, netting against Mauritius in September 2019. He had arrived in Portugal a year earlier, moving from Maputo to join Amora, and by July 2019 had already signed with Sporting CP on loan with an option to buy. Sporting first took 90% of his rights for €600,000, then extended his contract to 2028 and added a further stake in December 2023, before paying an extra €2.25 million in July 2025 to secure full ownership of his registration, taking the club's total outlay to around €3 million.
Between those milestones, Catamo spent two seasons out on loan, first at Vitória Guimarães and then at Marítimo, before returning to Sporting for good. Since then he has become a regular part of a side that won back-to-back Primeira Liga titles in 2023–24 and 2024–25, adding the Taça de Portugal in the latter campaign.
His international career has grown alongside his club form. Playing as a left-footed right winger, he has reached 43 caps and 14 goals for the national team. Among those goals, he scored a brace at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, finding the net against both Gabon and Cameroon.
