Lucas Alexander Sosa

Lucas Sosa's path to Ecuadorian football began with a change of passport rather than a change of club. Signed by Deportivo Cuenca in 2018 after a spell at Huracán in his native Argentina, the left-footed defender naturalized as an Ecuadorian citizen in January 2021. At Huracán he had already collected silverware, winning the Copa Argentina in the 2013–14 season and the Supercopa Argentina in 2015, with loan spells at Talleres de Córdoba and Patronato along the way.

It was at Guayaquil City, where he joined in 2019, that Sosa established himself as a regular starter. A loan to Emelec in 2021 followed, though the option to sign him permanently was not taken up, and he returned to Guayaquil City for the 2022 season before moving on loan to Barcelona SC in January of that year, with an option to buy attached.

At Barcelona SC, Sosa became a fixture across Liga Pro, the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana. In 2025 he returned to Argentina on loan with Newell's Old Boys, before reports early the following year pointed to a free transfer to América Mineiro in Brazil. Despite his naturalization, Sosa has not been capped at senior level by either Argentina or Ecuador.
