About the player
Matías Pérez broke through at Lanús, coming up through the club's youth academy before making his senior debut in February 2020. That first season took him all the way to a Copa Sudamericana final. He went on to make 58 appearances for the club, scoring three goals from central defence, before Russian side FK Orenburg signed him in December 2022.
Across 53 appearances between 2023 and 2024 he scored ten goals, and in the 2023/24 season he finished as the top-scoring central defender in the Russian Premier League.
In early 2025 he moved on to Cerro Porteño in Paraguay, a country to which he also holds nationality through his parents, despite growing up and developing as a player in Argentina. He won the Clausura 2025 title with Cerro Porteño as well as the Supercopa Paraguay. He was capped by Argentina at Under-15 level in 2013 but has not featured for a senior national team.
In August 2026 he completed a transfer to Racing Club, returning to Argentine football after spells in Russia and Paraguay.
