About the player
Mina Tanaka was born in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand, to a Japanese father and a Thai mother, before the family returned to Japan and she grew up in Kawasaki. She built her name at NTV Tokyo Verdy Beleza, where she spent almost a decade and finished with 165 goals in 227 appearances across all competitions.
A move to INAC Kobe Leonessa in 2020 came with a brief detour to Germany: on loan at Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 2021, she scored four goals in ten Frauen-Bundesliga appearances before returning to Kobe, where she added a WE League title and another Empress's Cup before her contract ended in 2024.
Tanaka then crossed to the United States, joining Utah Royals FC in July 2024. She signed through the 2025 season and extended the deal through 2028 the following August.
On the international stage, she has represented Japan since her 2013 debut and has won an AFC Women's Asian Cup and Asian Games gold with the national side. She was part of Japan's squad at the 2023 World Cup, where their run ended in the last 16 against Sweden, and at the Olympics. Her most recent honour came with the SheBelieves Cup in 2025, where she was named Tournament MVP.
