Al Hilal Women are chasing a first league title that has slipped past them twice already, and the near misses keep piling up: runners-up in the Saudi Women's Premier League in 2022–23 and again in 2023–24, beaten to the Premier Challenge Cup by Al Nassr in December 2025, then beaten by the same rivals in the 2025–26 Saudi Women's FA Cup final, 3–2 after extra time.

The club did not start life under this name. It was founded in 2007 as Challenge Women's Football Club, only the second women's team in Saudi Arabia after Eastern Flames. The Al Hilal SFC organisation absorbed it in 2022, handing it the parent club's crest, its blue-and-white colours and the nicknames Al-Za'eem and The Blue Waves, and entering it in the first-ever season of the Saudi Women's Premier League that year.

There is a second rivalry with Al Ittihad Women, Riyadh against Jeddah.
