Before it wore the black and yellow of Jeddah's biggest club, the team that would become Al-Ittihad Women existed on its own, playing under the name Jeddah Eagles FC. It won the inaugural Jeddah Women's League in 2019 and took part in the first Saudi Women's Community Football League two seasons later. On 25 September 2022, Al-Ittihad Jeddah bought the club outright and folded it into its own colours, turning an independent side into the women's arm of a club backed by the Public Investment Fund.

The takeover moved home games to the Al-Ittihad Club Stadium, also known as Prince Faisal bin Fahad Stadium, which holds around 15,000, and it opened the door to signings from abroad. Ashleigh Plumptre arrived from Leicester City to captain the side, and Francisca Ordega joined from CSKA Moscow in 2025, both Nigerian internationals brought in as the league professionalised around them. From the Jeddah Eagles years, midfielder Farah Jefry stayed on; she topped the scoring charts in the 2020–21 Champions Cup and picked up the nickname "the Saudi De Bruyne" for the way she runs the middle of the park.

Against Al-Ahli, the Jeddah Derby has been theirs from the start: Al-Ittihad won the first meeting 3–1 in October 2022. The Saudi Women's Premier League, launched the same year as the takeover, tells a different story. Al-Nassr has won every edition, and Al-Ittihad's best finish so far is runners-up in 2025–26. In the cup, a run to the semi-finals in 2024–25 ended in a 5–2 aggregate defeat.
