Aitor Ariño spent two seasons, 2010 to 2012, wearing the second team's colours before he became a fixture in the senior squad.

FC Barcelona Handbol B took its first bow in the 2001–02 season, in the third tier, and structurally barred from the top flight: Spanish rules keep reserve sides out of the Liga ASOBAL and out of the Copa del Rey, whatever their record in División de Honor Plata. That ceiling means the club carries no honours of its own.

The team trains and plays at the Pista Handbol Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, which opened in 2006 and holds 472. Ian Barrufet, a left wing, finished among the division's top scorers there before moving on; the Cikusa twins, Djordje and Petar, passed through the same youth pipeline together.

What rivalry the B team has is borrowed and downsized. The first team's derby against BM Granollers has no real equivalent at reserve level; instead, Barça B measures itself against RCD Espanyol B in what is known locally as the Miniderbi, and against Catalan neighbours such as Girona or Handbol Bordils in fixtures grouped under the Derbi Català.
