Anaitasuna

Carlos Chocarro spent nineteen seasons on Anaitasuna's left wing before retiring in 2023. Ibai Meoki left the same year, and between them they carried a Pamplona handball side.

The club's Liga ASOBAL story split into two acts. It reached the top flight in the late 1960s and stayed until relegation in 1983, then waited until 2011 to return, promoted only after Arrate turned down the spot. That second run lasted until 2025, when a 15th-place finish sent Anaitasuna into a playoff against Bada Huesca, which it lost, and the club dropped back down. In between came its highest points: a Copa del Rey final in 2016, lost to FC Barcelona 30–33, and a Supercopa ASOBAL final the following year, also against Barcelona. A run to the EHF Cup quarter-finals in 2016–17 fell in the same stretch.

For nineteen of those years the team competed as Helvetia Anaitasuna, carrying the insurance company's name until the sponsorship ended in 2025 and the club reverted to plain Anaitasuna. The women's section, playing under the same commercial name, finished third in División de Honor Oro in 2024–25, and reached the Copa de la Reina for the first time, where Cicar Lanzarote eliminated it in the first round.

Both clubs draw from Basque handball's small pool of talent, and the fixture carries its own name, the Derbi Vasco.
