Cluj

Third place is the closest Universitatea Cluj-Napoca's men have come to a Romanian championship, reached in 1968–69 and 1969–70 and then not again until 1999–2000 and 2017–18. The medals that do sit in the club's cabinet came earlier and in a different competition: the Romanian Cup, won in 1967 and 1968. Constantin Tudosie and Sabin Schobel came out of that group as Olympic medallists, and Günther Speck won a world youth title while playing for Cluj.

The men's section traces to 1935, when professor Onoriu Chețianu set it up inside the wider Universitatea Cluj sports club, which already existed as an institution founded in 1919. The nicknames from that era stuck: "Studenții" for the university roots, "Șepcile Roșii" for the red caps, worn over a colour scheme that has otherwise stayed black and white.

The men's side has moved between Divizia A and the Liga Națională in recent seasons, promoted after taking the second tier in 2022–23 and finding the top flight hard to hold.
