Costa Rica Women

When Costa Rica's women walked out for their first Twenty20 internationals in December 2019, against Belize and Mexico, the side included Ana Wolfe, born in 1969, and Amelia Arias among its early debutants. Women's cricket in the country was then only four and a half years old as an organised game. The Women's Cricket Association had been inaugurated on 14 May 2015 in San José, with the British Embassy's help, to promote the sport and build a league that did not yet exist.

The same year brought a harder lesson in the Central American championship. Mexico won it, beating Costa Rica 3-0. Belize took the 2023 edition. Las Ticas have not yet won the women's title.

The record from those first matches is short and uneven. As of April 2026 the team has won 4 Women's Twenty20 Internationals, lost 9 and tied one. Much of the bowling has come from two players. Sofía Bolaños, the captain and wicket-keeper, leads the side with 14 wickets. Yerin Molina has taken 13. Wendy Morales, a former captain and one of the longest-serving players, has 101 runs and 9 wickets. Esteffany Barboza, an all-rounder, has scored 107 runs and taken 10 wickets.

Their home is not a cricket club in the usual sense. Los Reyes Polo Club, in Guácima de Alajuela outside San José, is a polo ground that also serves the men's national team.
