Dila

Gori's team began life under the Dinamo name, set up in 1949. The Dila name arrived in 1961 and stuck.

When Georgia broke away and started its own league in 1990, Dila were there for the first season. Relegation to the second tier came in 2007. Promotion in 2010, and within two years the club had its first trophy: the Georgian Cup in 2011/12. Three years after that came the league title, in 2014/15.

An Israeli investment group, Starsportinvest, bought the club in 2016. The reconstruction of the Tengiz Burjanadze Stadium the following year left it smaller than before, with 5,000 seats, though the ground had rarely been asked to hold more.

Then a long run of near-misses. Third in 2015/16, third again in 2020, 2021 and 2022, third in 2024 — six seasons in which Dila were consistently among the best three sides in the country and never the best. The players wear red at home and dark blue away, and the nickname the supporters use, Mcvlebi, means Defenders.

2025 broke the pattern. Dila took the Georgian Cup for a second time and added the Super Cup, the club's first. They also finished second in the league that year, which is where the frustration sits: cups they can win, and the runners-up spot they have now taken twice, in 2012/13 and again in 2025. The Erovnuli Liga title has come once in more than three decades of Georgian league football, and it was a decade ago.
