EHC Frauenfeld

In the spring of 2009 the Frauenfeld ice hall turned into a scene few local fans expected to see: a team from a small Thurgau town, coached by Emanuel "Mäni" Marbach, was crowned Swiss Amateur Champion in the Regio League. It remains the finest result the club has produced since it took shape in 1946, and that same year Frauenfeld added the Eastern Swiss Championship as well, a double no later season has matched.

Games against PIKES EHC Oberthurgau are fought out as the Thurgau Derby, a fixture that carries more weight around town than the league table usually does. Promotion has come in stages rather than one climb: a pair of 2. Liga titles in the 1970s and 1990s, a 1. Liga championship in 2008–09, and then, in 2021–22, another 1. Liga title in the Group East that sent the team up into the MyHockey League.

At the Kunsteisbahn Frauenfeld, 625 people can sit for a game, and another 1,300 stand around the rink for the rest.

The name locals bring up first is Fabrice Herzog, who came through Frauenfeld's junior ranks before moving on to EV Zug, the ZSC Lions and HC Davos. He won the Swiss Championship with the Lions in 2018 and with Zug in 2022, then took silver with the national team at the 2024 World Championship, the kind of career the club's youth coaches still point to.
