Seewen

Twice, a decade apart, Seewen finished a season as the best amateur side in Switzerland.

That academy has form. Sandro Zurkirchen came up through Seewen before settling in as a National League goaltender, moving between Zug, Kloten, Ambrì-Piotta, Lausanne, Lugano and Geneva-Servette over a career.

The club was promoted into what is now the MyHockey League in 2005/06, after winning the division below, and has stayed there since — a level where Arosa, in particular, has supplied the sharpest playoff fights in the club's recent memory.

Around the town, the club goes by "Die Stachelbienen" — the Bumblebees — and plays in blue, white and red at the Kunsteisbahn Zingel, a rink that holds 1,300. It was founded in January 1951, in a Canton Schwyz not otherwise known for producing National League players.

Which is what makes Zurkirchen's path worth noting on its own: a goaltender who started in a 1,300-seat rink in Seewen and ended up between the posts in six different National League cities.
