Hadsten Women

The odd part of Hadsten's history is what it is missing: What the club has instead is a single promotion, in 2012, and a brief run in the top-flight Damehåndbold Ligaen four years later that ended in the qualification round, short of staying up. The team came from a merger rather than a founding in the usual sense: on 27 June 2005 the local handball side Vissing-Hadsten HK, itself once a top-division club, joined with the town's gymnastics association to form what plays today under the Hadsten Sports Klub banner.

Jutland handball has a hierarchy, and Hadsten sits just under the top of it. Skanderborg is reckoned the region's biggest club; Hadsten comes next, close enough that players move between the two without much fuss and no fixture between them carries a derby name.

Red and black are the club's colours, and matches are played at Hadbjergvej, in a hall the town has known since 1972 under different names. As of the 2024–25 season the side sits back in the 2. Division, one level below where it played in 2016–17.

The name attached longest to the club is Anne Dorthe Tanderup, whose medal collection belongs to a different level of the sport altogether: Olympic gold in 1996, a world title the same year, a European title in 1998. Few clubs of Hadsten's size can point to an Olympic champion who once wore their colours.
