Haukar Women

Hanna Guðrún Stefánsdóttir joined Haukar in 1995 and left with five league titles and, in time, the status of the second-highest scorer in the history of the Icelandic national team. Her career traces the shape of the club's best years: Haukar's championships cluster around the turn of the century, in 1996, 1997, 2001, 2002 and 2005, with two earlier titles from 1945 and 1946 marking the only other spell the team spent at the top.

The women play as Haukakonur, and their fixture against FH Hafnarfjörður carries its own name, the Hafnarfjarðarderbý, contested within a town small enough that both clubs share its streets. In Europe, Haukar have twice landed the kind of result that gets repeated for years afterwards: a win over US Créteil in 1996 and another over FC Barcelona in 1997.

Cup form has been the more durable thread. Haukar have taken the Icelandic Cup five times — 1997, 2003, 2006 and 2007, then a long gap before 2025, when they reached the final again against Valur. Between the cups and the league titles sits a club built, at its founding on 12 April 1931 in Hafnarfjörður, as a home for more than one sport, with handball becoming the section that carried the Haukakonur name furthest.
