HC Sviesa

Ask around Tauras Sports School in Vilnius who carried Šviesa through the last decade, and the answer usually comes back to the roster itself.

Šviesa was founded in 2002, and by 2003 it had already won its first Lithuanian Handball League championship, then repeated it a year later. What followed was a long gap without the title before the club returned to the top in 2014 and, from 2017 onward, barely let go of it — 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024.

Abroad, the story reads differently. Domestically, though, there is a fiercer measure than Europe: the Vilnius derby against HC Vilnius, with Granitas-Karys of Kaunas as the other name Šviesa supporters watch for.

The blue in the club's colours is Šviesa's own; the yellow belongs to its sponsor, the Lithuanian National Defence Volunteer Forces, an unusual pairing for a handball crest.
