Taşkın Güngör once took charge in İnegöl and guided the side to a 3. Lig title, one of three the club has claimed at that level over the years.

İnegölspor did not start life as one team but as three. İdmanyurdu Spor Kulübü, formed in 1923, and Demir Spor Kulübü, formed in 1947, merged with İnegöl Spor Kulübü in May 1954, and the combined side spent the following decades under a string of different names before settling on İnegölspor in August 1966. Thirty years later, in 1984, the same three roots merged again, this time to form a proper professional club.

The nickname tells its own story of local rivalry. Bursaspor, the province's dominant club, are known as the Yeşil Timsahlar, the Green Crocodiles, and İnegölspor answered with Bordo Dinozorlar, the Maroon Dinosaurs, a name that leans on the fact that crocodiles trace their ancestry back to the age of dinosaurs. Ahead of long-running meetings with Eskişehirspor, MKE Ankaragücü and Göztepe.

The closest the club has come to something bigger was the 2014–15 season, when İnegölspor reached the 2. Lig play-off final and lost on penalties to 1461 Trabzon.
