The club grew out of the local furniture manufacturer of the same name, formally established on 25 February 1972.

That attention came without a league title. Konjuh reached the final of the Bosnian Premier League three times, in 2007/2008, 2013/2014 and as recently as 2024/2025, and finished runner-up on each occasion. In the 2025/2026 season Konjuh beat Gradačac 31:28 in the final to win the Bosnia and Herzegovina Cup, the first trophy of the club's history. In Europe the high point came earlier, in 2006/2007, when Konjuh reached the quarter-finals of the EHF Challenge Cup.

Kemal Hamzić is the name most tied to the club, a player Konjuh calls one of its own who left to play in Spain and then Finland, where he was named the Finnish league's MVP, before returning to Živinice in 2025. Alen Hadžić has coached the side since the 2023/2024 season.

Home games are played in orange and white in front of 900 people at the SD Živinice arena.
