Lausitzer Füchse

Weißwasser sits in Lusatia, in the far east of Saxony near the Polish border, a town where the workforce founded the club on 15 December 1932 as Eishockey Weißwasser. The founders called themselves the "Jungs von der Osramstraße" — boys from Osram Street.

The club has carried seven different names since, before settling as EHC Lausitzer Füchse in 2002. The two and a half decades under the name SG Dynamo Weißwasser were when the club won the DDR-Meisterschaft twenty-five times, including fifteen straight titles from 1951 to 1965.

Reunification did not carry the club upward. It spent two seasons in the Eishockey-Bundesliga, then a single season in the new Deutsche Eishockey Liga in 1994/95 as ESG Füchse Sachsen, in tandem with EV Chemnitz, before financial trouble forced a withdrawal. Since 2004, the Foxes have played in the second tier, now the DEL2, working from the Eisarena Weißwasser, an arena that holds 1,377 seated and 2,975 in total. A long-running arrangement with Eisbären Berlin keeps the pipeline moving — prospects on loan pass through Weißwasser on their way toward the DEL, among them Moritz Kretzschmar and Eric Hördler.
