Lukko

Rauma is a coastal town on Finland's southwest edge, built on shipbuilding and the tar trade, and hockey in Satakunta has never belonged to it alone — Pori sits a short drive away with its own club. Lukko grew out of that setting in 1936, taking its name from the local match and lock manufacturer, and has spent the decades since standing as the town's counterweight to Ässät in the Satakunta derby, a fixture that carries the old rivalry between the region's two biggest towns onto the ice.

The club's championships sit nearly six decades apart. The first came in 1963, in the old SM-sarja days; the second waited until 2021, when Lukko beat TPS Turku 3–1 in the Liiga final. Two Finnish Cups followed each other quickly in between, in 1964 and 1969, but after that the silverware dried up for a long stretch — long enough that relegation from the top flight in 1983 became part of the story too, before the club won promotion straight back through the I-divisioona the following year.

Lukko plays at Kivikylän Areena, a rink that opened in 1970 under the name Äijänsuo and was rebuilt in 2006, holding 4,500 for home games. The club's reach abroad showed itself in 2016, when a Champions Hockey League run took Lukko to the semi-finals, and in the string of players who left Rauma for the NHL — Frans Nielsen and Dwayne Roloson among them.

Few careers tie to the club as directly as Antti Raanta's. The goaltender came up through Lukko before his NHL years with the New York Rangers and elsewhere, and in 2025 he came back to Rauma, returning to the net for the club that a town of goaltending pedigree first put him in front of.
