Neckarsulmer Women

Neckarsulmer sits east of Heilbronn on the Neckar. Handball changed that. Sport-Union Neckarsulm grew out of a 2009 merger of two local clubs, Sportvereinigung Neckarsulm 1946 and Sportfreunde Neckarsulm.

That team won the 2. Bundesliga in 2016 and went up to the Handball-Bundesliga Frauen, where it has stayed a competitive presence without adding a national title to the cabinet. The domestic silverware is regional: the HVW-Pokal, taken in 2011 and 2013, before the top-flight promotion.

In 2021 the club dropped the name Neckarsulmer Sport-Union for Sport-Union Neckarsulm and redrew its badge, moving away from the acronym NSU because of its association, in Germany, with the far-right terrorist cell of that name rather than with handball. The players go by Die Blau-Schwarzen , the Blue-Blacks, after the club's colours.

Matches against Frisch Auf Göppingen are billed locally as the Süd-Derby. Home games are played in the Ballei-Sporthalle, a 1,500-capacity hall known for the 2024/25 season under its sponsored name, the Alsco HBF.
