NIGELEC

ASN Nigelec grew out of Niger's state electricity utility, Société Nigérienne d'Électricité, which set up the club in Niamey in 2005 to represent the company on the pitch. The tie to the utility has never loosened; it gave the side its nickname, Les Électriciens, and its blue-and-red colours.

For its first years Nigelec sat in the middle of the table while Olympic FC de Niamey and Sahel SC fought out the capital's oldest rivalry. The break came in 2013, when a 1–0 win over Akokana FC brought the Coupe du Niger and a place in the following season's CAF Confederation Cup — the club's first taste of continental football. The bigger shift arrived with the 2021–22 league title, ending the mid-table years and opening the door to the CAF Champions League.

That rivalry sharpened further in 2025, when Nigelec beat Douanes on penalties after a goalless final to retain the Coupe du Niger, adding it to a league title already won that season for a domestic double, and followed it with the Supercoupe du Niger.
