Jerry Richardson sold the Carolina Panthers to David Tepper in 2018 for $2.2 billion.
Two of those seasons carried them to the Super Bowl: after 2003, Jake Delhomme's team lost to the New England Patriots 20–32, and after 2015, Carolina fell 9–24 in Super Bowl 50.
Steve Smith Sr. still holds the club's records for catches and receiving yards, and five Panthers have gone into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Luke Kuechly the most recent, inducted in 2025. Games against the Atlanta Falcons carry their own name in Charlotte, the I-85 Rivalry, alongside the standing claims of Tampa Bay and New Orleans in a division that rarely settles early.
The Panthers returned to the playoffs in 2025, taking the NFC South at 8-9.
